The End of November

How is it that this happens every year? We say, "I can't believe summer is over" to, "I love Halloween" to "It's too early for Christmas decorations" to "Happy Thanksgiving" in the blink of an eye. Every. Single. Year. The time flies by, and now tomorrow is the first day of December.

#30mandalas continues...

It's such a weird thing, to think about how other people see your artwork. Lauren (@llaurenb on Instagram), the amazing artist who inspired my #30mandalas project, once commented on IG about always being able to recognize my work by my style, saying, "No one else does this." She was talking about how I add illustrated elements and doodles to collage. It kind of floored me. Surely someone else has done this. Do I really have my own unique style? One that is recognizable?

#30mandalas : A New Project.

All artists have creative ruts. Some have specific reasons, some have possible reasons, and some unfortunately present themselves with no reason at all.

For the past year almost, I have been experiencing one of the largest creative ruts ever. I create things here and there, but am feeling utterly uninspired. This one has all the types of reasons mentioned above, which I will get into in a later post I am sure, once I sort out all of my thoughts.

But, I feel like I have just been letting it happen. I've been busy. I've been tired. I've been absolutely broke.

An Eclipse Adventure

Monday, August 21, 2017: One of my favorite days in recent history.

I remember the last time I witnessed a solar eclipse. It was 1994. I was in the 5th grade. It was an annular eclipse, where the moon turned the sun into a glowing ring. We were outside for it, and the thing I remember most was the odd quality of the light. Even then, while the thing that most of the other kids were excited about was more outside time and less class time, I was amazed by experience.

Summer Bucket List

Well, as of yesterday evening, with an incredible amount of help from my mom, my flowers are in the ground. Now it really feels like summer is almost here.

Art Journal Pages As of Lately

Well since I haven't blogged in about 7000 years up until the past week or so, I realized that there are many pages in my art journal that haven't been shared on here. I get lots of questions about my process when it comes to creating these pages, and people seem surprised to hear that I rarely work with a plan. It's a very therapeutic thing, kind of like my mind spilling out on paper. I glue, I doodle, I add in words and quotes and phrases that are in my head at the time.

Sailing the Ocean Blue Part II

Day 8 of being home. Still halfway in denial. Finally answered (I think... I hope) all emails and issues that arose when I was away. One of my misconceptions before I started going on cruises was that all ships must have free wifi. Good lord was I mistaken.

Sailing the Ocean Blue Part I

Well, it certainly has been a while. I feel like every time I sit down to write a blog post, I get sucked in by something else and "I'll do it tomorrow" turns into "I'll do it in three months." In any case, WOW. Lots has been going on. Winter is long-gone, summer is fast-approaching, and sunny days full of adventures are on the horizon. Never mind that it was below freezing this morning. Thanks, Ohio.

So these next few posts are going to be long and filled with an excessive amount of photos, so if you make it to the end, I applaud you.

Tuesday Adventures: Escaping Drama and Haters.

We all need at least one thing to help us unwind, decompress, escape, de-stress... whatever you want to call it. Art, music, writing, singing, running, cleaning. It can be anything.

I have quite a few of these things. One is of course taking walks and exploring and wandering.

There's this quote that you probably have seen circulating the internet in different variations, but it says something like, "If you have haters, GOOD. It means you have stood up for someone at one point in your life." Remember that quote. And all of its variations. It's so important.
